Mobile phones news: RIM and Symbian failing to keep up with Android
Before recycling a mobile phone and committing to the purchase of another, consumers might be wise to spend a little time considering the relative strengths and weaknesses of various operating systems.
Michael Morgan, senior analyst for mobile devices at ABI Research, has had his say on several of the industry's major players.
He noted Android is one of the platforms to aspire to and could be a great choice for users.
Indeed, the expert suggested it is leaving the likes of Research in Motion (RIM) and Symbian in its wake.
"Times have moved on and now we all want dual core processing and all this kind of stuff and unfortunately those operating systems are not really able to keep up with the hardware," Mr Morgan stated.
RIM's software recently hit the headlines when it was said to be used by rioters to plan attacks during the disorder in London and other English cities.
