Mobile phone users switch to high-end devices
Mobile phone recycling could be set to become more popular after analysts reported growing demand for smartphones in the UK.
According to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, more than four out of ten people in Britain own one of these gadgets, Total Telecom reports.
Android-based handsets were said to be especially popular, with nearly half of all smartphone owners favouring this particular operating system.
This put it ahead of rivals from the likes of Research In Motion and Apple.
However, Kantar Worldpanel ComTech noted that there is still more that companies can do to fuel growth in the smartphone sector.
For example, it said greater efforts need to be put in place to target people aged over 45, many of whom consider the ease of use a priority when investing in a new handset.
The findings follow predictions from the International Data Corporation that the smartphone market around the world will expand by 55 per cent this year.
