Mobile Phone Recycling: Google Accuses Nokia Of Mobile Collusion

Google yesterday (May 31st) accused Microsoft and Nokia of working together to use their patents against other smartphone industry rivals.

The search giant has claimed it has filed a formal complaint over the issue with the European Commission.

In its filing, Google claimed that Microsoft and Nokia, which now operate with one another on the Windows Phone operating system, transferred 1,200 patents for assertion to a group called MOSAID.

Google referred to the firm as a "patent troll" - a term referring to a holder of patents that litigates them overly aggressively, Reuters reports.

A statement from Google said both Nokia and Microsoft should be held accountable and hopes other firms will follow suit with their complaints about the collaboration in the near future.

"Nokia and Microsoft are colluding to raise the costs of mobile devices for consumers, creating patent trolls that side-step promises both companies have made," the statement read.
