Mobile Phone Recycling Could Be Set For A Boom

A busy period in the mobile phone recycling industry could be around the corner, after one organisation predicted the take-up of tablets will soar.

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has upped its prediction of 50.4 million shipments for 2011 to 53.5 million.

With so many people expected to invest in a new tablet device, many mobile phone could be surplus to requirements and recycled as a result.

Of the tablets interesting consumers, Apple's iPad and its newer iPad 2 continue to lead the way, although the manufacturer's shipments for the first quarter of the year were lower than expected.

Looking ahead, Bob O'Donnell, IDC's vice-president of clients and displays, said: We expect the rest of the year to be much stronger, but we believe vendors who continue to focus on the telco channel for distribution will face serious challenges."

Other products in Apple's range include its iconic iPhone, as well as the iPod touch.
