Mobile phone recycling: Smartphone popularity gains among 25-55-year-olds
The incredible rise in popularity of mobile phones around the world has been such that over 50 per cent of the UK population now owns a smart device.
Research conducted by eMarketer has found that smartphone uptake among 25 to 55-year-olds in the US is set to increase markedly in the next five years.
Recent figures compiled by eMarketer suggested that the number of people owning smartphones in the US will more than double from 93.1 million at the end of 2011 to 192.4 million by 2016.
The 25 to 55-year-old age group will see the highest penetration rate in the country during the next five years but this won’t be the only demographic to see increases.
eMarketer expects declining prices, alongside increased functionality of smartphones into everyday life, to drive ownership of the devices among teenagers up to 50 per cent by 2014.
Adults aged 45 to 64 are also expected to see similar uptake.
