Mobile phone recycling: Publishing of apps suspended on Windows Phone
Microsoft has temporarily ceased the publishing of new apps to the Windows Phone Marketplace as it attempts to fix a bug in the system.
The issue is preventing some people from downloading or updating apps and is to do with digital certificates used to sign apps.
Director of program management at Microsoft Mazhar Mohammed said in a Windows Phone blog post that an internal investigation revealed that the issue affects only mobile phone upgraded to Windows Phone 7.5.
As a result of this, Microsoft has created an Answers forum to address users' questions about the current situation.
Only a small percentage of the more than 100,000 apps currently in the marketplace are affected by the problem, but the pause on publishing should give the firm time to rollout a fix.
"Among the more popular ones affected are the New York Times, What's App, and Translator from Bing - all of which recently issued new updates," Mr Mohammed wrote in the blog post.
