Mobile Phone Experts Urged To Improve Broadband Services

While broadband access is important to many mobile phone users, it could be so much better, in the opinion of one expert.

Chris Marling, editor of Broadband Genie, said the UK is currently "dragging our heels" when it comes to adopting the latest technology.

He noted that 4G connections are now widespread in the US and across some parts of Europe, with speeds averaging more than 10Mb – but in Britain they remain at about 1Mb.

"The companies providing this superfast mobile broadband are the likes of T-Mobile and O2 parent company Telefonica, so it's even the same companies," Mr Marling explained.

There is seemingly no reason for the UK not to press ahead and enjoy faster mobile broadband speeds, which would be a significant bonus for phone users.

Surrey County Council this week unveiled plans to adopt super-fast broadband across its whole area, including rural outposts and spots not included in BT's national upgrade.
