Mobile payment systems may inspire used phone selling

28/06/2011

People could start to sell used phones as the technology for mobile payment is rolled out in British shops.

According to Juniper Research, the number of consumers with access to the system, which allows goods to be purchased with a special chip inserted in mobiles rather than by cash or card, is set to rocket.

At the moment, approximately 1.8 billion people around the world are forecast to make payments from mobiles this year, with this figure due to rise to 2.5 billion by 2015.

Looking ahead, senior analyst David Snow said: "It needs to be seen by innovative players as a platform from which to develop new value added applications and services such as personalised mobile coupons, loyalty schemes and novel augmented reality offerings."

Dr Charles Trotman, head of rural business development for the Country Land and Business Association, this week bemoaned another business mobile factor – the poor broadband connections available to firms located in rural areas.
