Mobile internet fans may be best with a Nokia device
News of a major acquisition may be all the persuasion some mobile phone fans require to trade-in their old handsets and invest in one from Nokia.
The Finnish company has agreed a deal with Motorola that will see it purchase the majority of its wireless internet infrastructure for $1.2 billion (£785 million).
It is thought this will significantly increase the brand's presence across the world and enhance its ability to offer a comprehensive mobile internet service to consumers.
"This is an exciting acquisition that I believe has significant benefits for customers, employees and our shareholders," states Rajeev Suri, chief executive officer at Nokia Siemens Networks.
One benefit could be faster and more reliable web browsing for those with a Nokia - or Motorola - handset, while some people may be hoping for an improved connection in various parts of the country.
With the deal due to be completed by the end of 2010, the Nokia N8 - rumoured to be set for release this year - could be the ideal device on which to try out the upgrades.
