Mobile broadband fans could sell used phones to switch to Nokia

02/11/2011

Nokia customers or those thinking about selling their used phones and switching to the network can now take advantage of a free Wi-Fi trial the brand has launched in London.

Some 26 hotspots near West End shopping areas have been set up, providing wireless internet access without the need for sign-up or registration, the BBC reports.

The idea of the trial, which lasts until the end of the year, is to find out what people use the connection for and therefore how it can be tweaked and changed in future in order to offer an effective service.

Compared with other countries in the world, the UK already offers quite a few places and locations in which Wi-Fi can be accessed for free. Many restaurants and cafes use it as an important selling point, given the proliferation of smartphones and tablet computers owned by everyday consumers.

News of the launch comes days after Nokia expanded its hardware range. The Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 models, which both run on Windows, are soon to hit shops.
