Microsoft Has Killed Nokia

Nokia has been struggling in the smartphone market in recent times and has hedged a lot of its bets on the Windows Phone operating system having cast aside its own Symbian OS.

Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8 OS is due to be available in the next few months but in the meantime this could affect sales of current Windows Phone 7 devices.

UK managing director for MagicSoftware.com David Akka believes that Nokia - in its current guise - is "dead" and it must do something arrest the slide.

He said that Microsoft is likely to bring out its own devices in the future and so Nokia could look to purchase Research In Motion (RIM), which is similarly struggling.

It was recently claimed in the Sunday Times that RIM is considering selling its mobile phone business (BlackBerry) in order to ease the burden on the embattled firm.

"The fact that Windows Phone 7 users will not be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 will basically kill the next two to three months for Nokia," Mr Akka continued.
