Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer: Windows Phone Sales Up 300% On Last Year

Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer claims that the manufacturer is selling four-times more Windows Phone (WP) handsets than it did at the same point last year.

The technology giant unveiled its latest WP8 operating system on October 29th, and handsets running the software started to come onto the UK market in November.

Currently, the high-end Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X handsets are available to British consumers.

These touch-screen gadgets each come in a range of bright colours, matching the vibrancy of the software interface.

More affordable models with lesser specifications, the Nokia Lumia 820 and HTC 8S, are due to go on sale soon.

There are also devices from other manufacturers in the pipeline, so buyers will be able to choose from a wide range of WP8 smartphones imminently.

Release of the Samsung Ativ S, which has a metallic finish and 4.8-inch HD display, has allegedly been pushed back until 2013.

The Huawei Ascend W1 may be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, which takes place on January 8th to 11th.
