LTE mobile phone shipments to rocket by 200% in 2013
Analysts have predicted that sale of Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile phones will rocket by 202.5 per cent next year, taking total shipments to 275 million.
More consumers will adopt the modern gadgets in 2013 as 4G network availability expands, according to Strategy Analytics.
Currently, EE is the only telecommunications network to offer this high-speed connectivity in the UK, and it recently confirmed that another 17 towns and cities would benefit by March.
Ofcom is currently in the process of auctioning additional 4G mobile airwaves, with Vodafone and O2 expected to be among the rival bidders.
LTE technology is incorporated into most high-end smartphones like the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One XL.
At the moment, the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 are the only Windows Phone 8 devices to support high-speed 4G networks.
Using this connection allows owners to stream videos, load web pages and install apps more quickly while on-the-go.
