Launch of iOS 5 may trigger 'sell my mobile' requests in favour of iPhone 4

The brand new Apple operating system – iOS 5 – is launched today (October 12th), potentially leading to many people selling mobiles in order to upgrade to the new iPhone 4S.

With availability of the device still two days away, now could be a time to check out all the features of the new platform it will run on.

Upon announcing the new iPhone 4S and operating system, Apple gave away several details about what consumers can expect.

For example, iOS 5 is described as the world's "most advanced" operating system and contains more than 200 new features.

One of these is the Notification Center, which is an easy-to-use portal that provides a gathering place for messages and reminders.

People may also be excited about iMessage, which is a new way to send texts, photographs and videos to other iOS 5 users.

Apple recently revealed that more than one million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S were placed in just a day last week.
