Is Android The Preferred Choice Of Those Who Recycle Mobile Phones?

People who recycle mobile phones could be among those contributing to figures that suggest Android devices are now more popular than iPhones – with one retailer at least.

Tesco Mobile said that the last few weeks have marked an historic time in terms of sales, with the Apple model toppled for the first time.

It suggested the results indicate customers are getting behind the Google platform, with 2011 perhaps set to be Android's year.

Graham Harris, chief executive officer at Tesco Mobile, said the numbers can be a good indicator of smartphone trends.

"There is a lot of choice in the market and as a result consumers are driving healthy competition between rival operating systems," he added.

The retailer went on to attribute the rise of Android to a number of factors, including increased affordability.

A Guardian blog this week suggested tools such as Sky News could be among the next to be made available in app form to Android users.
