iPad 3 needs to 'shatter records' to be successful
Apple finally launched the new iPad 3 yesterday (March 7th) after rumours for months about when the device would be unveiled, but it has been claimed by an expert it will have to have phenomenal sales to be successful.
Since being originally launched two years ago, the iPad has become Apple's best-selling product after the iPhone. It managed to sell 15.4 million of them in the final three months of 2011 which is more than double the equivalent figure for the same period in 2010.
Analyst at BGC Partners in New York Colin Gillis said that although many people are willing to update their phones every year, this is not necessarily the case with the more expensive tablets. Consequently he believes the firm could struggle to persuade consumers to update their iPad again so soon.
"The problem Apple has is that it needs to keep shattering records just to meet the market's expectations," he continued.
