HTML5 may inspire people to sell mobile phones
People could increasingly sell mobile phones in order to upgrade to devices with HTML5 browsers.
According to ABI Research, the number of models in the world offering the technology is due to grow from 109 million in 2010 to some 2.1 billion by the end of 2016.
The analyst organisation found that claims of HTML5 not being ready until 2020 are false, as there are already 25 features in development that will be on the market within three to five years.
"We expect HTML5 features in categories such as graphics, multimedia, user interactions, data storage and others to be widely adopted sooner rather than later," said Mark Beccue, senior analyst at the body.
He went on to suggest that the technology will become a key factor in the success of operating systems, potentially making it a must-have for operators.
Lisa Gade, editor-in-chief of Mobiletechreview.com, recently admitted she felt the UK is lucky to enjoy such a wide range of mobiles and the very best latest releases.
