HTC One M8 to come in a cheaper 'vogue' variant
HTC is getting ready to tackle a new area of the smartphone market with a cheaper version of its flagship device, if current rumours are to be believed.
According to the latest leak from Taiwanese site ePrice, the company has been working on a plastic version of its popular handset that would come with a lower price tag, helping it compete a little lower down the ladder.
It comes at a time when rumours are rife that one of its main rivals, Samsung, is headed in the completely opposite direction with the release of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, although the company has denied this.
HTC's latest leaks also seem to show that the firm is seeking a new name for its pared back version of the flagship device.
Most of us had expected the new handset to be named the HTC One M8 Ace, but the Chinese site ifanr has stated that it will actually be called the HTC One M8 Vogue.
Previous leaks have alleged that the specs for the device will include a Snapdragon 801 chip and a 5-inch 1080p display, but the new rumours coming from ePrice have added to these rumours.
The website's new report adds 2GB of RAM and HTC standard features like Sense 6.0. and BoomSound to the Ace/Vogue's specs.
The main plus point for the device, however, will be the fact it will come at a much cheaper price point than its sibling.
In order to make this a reality, the company appears to have removed the second rear camera that the HTC One M8 comes with as standard, while the plastic body also brings its price point right down.
It is expected that when the phone comes to market later this year, it will be shipping at a price far lower than its predecessor, with experts predicting that it will ship for just £280.
