HTC defeats Apple in patent disputes
HTC has claimed a major legal victory over rival Apple in a patent dispute following a ruling by the High Court in London.
The judge said that HTC had not infringed four technologies that Apple had claimed as its own, including the American company's slide-to-unlock feature, BBC News reports.
He claimed that this was an "obvious" development in the light of similar functions on an earlier Swedish handset.
HTC launched the London-based lawsuits a year ago as part of an effort to invalidate some of Apple's European patents, a move that led to a countersuit being filed.
This follows a number of key legal victories for Apple in America in which it was granted pre-trial injunctions to have the sales of both the Galaxy Nexus and Tab suspended.
A lawyer at UK firm Urquhart-Dykes and Lord Andrew Alton commented on the ruling and said: "The fact that Apple has lost this particular patent battle in the UK shouldn't mean it should be seen to have lost the global war."
