HTC 8X Windows Phone Handset Receives Portico Update

Microsoft rolled out the first update to its latest Windows Phone 8 (WP8) operating system for HTC 8X handset owners on December 10th.

The Taiwanese manufacturer released this high-end device in November, shortly after the new software was showcased at a San Francisco event.

The new firmware version, dubbed Portico, eliminates some bugs, so users should no longer experience spontaneous system re-boots or have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi.

Owners have also welcomed additional features to improve the text messaging service, including the option to reject calls with an accompanying SMS.

Users will be able to store unsent messages in the drafts folder, picking up where they left off after their message composition was interrupted.

A third improvement makes mass deletion of messages easier, since the HTC 8X inbox now has a 'select all' button.

Those with unlocked versions of the smartphone should be able to download the update over-the-air now using an internet connection.

Consumers who got their gadget through a mobile carrier may have to wait longer for the new software.
