Google Takes Rockstar Patent Battle To California

It seems the big mobile phone companies are constantly battling it out in patent courts across the world, with Google being the latest to try and win a patent issue.

The search engine giant has been arguing it out with Rockstar Consortium for a while. Rockstar paid billions of dollars for a pack of patents in 2011, beating Google and other potential bidders.

Earlier this year, the company sued a number of firms in Texas, including Samsung, HTC and some of Google's partners for allegedly infringing on seven of its patents.

Google claims the company "produces no products and practices no patents" but instead has a team "who examine other companies' successful products to find anything that Rockstar might use to demand and extract licenses to its patents under threat of litigation".

However, the Android creator has now gone to the Californian District Court in an attempt to get the judge to rule that Nexus devices, as well as other Android handsets, are not breaking Rockstar's patents.
