Geeksphone may be first with Firefox OS
Geeksphone is reported to be releasing its first Firefox OS-enabled mobile phones later this week, but the release could be as soon as tomorrow (April 24th).
The Spanish company showed the devices in January but customers have had to wait until now for them to make it to the market.
According to The Next Web, the handsets equipped with the highly-anticipated operating system dubbed "Keon" and "Peak" will be on sale by Friday.
The Keon is the company's budget offering and the Peak is a more high-end handset.
The company seems to have got ahead of the market, with competitors promising to bring Firefox-enabled devices into the market at some point but no dates have been set. The price for the modest handset is about £77 which is hard to argue with.
It will include 1 GHz processor, 4 GB of storage, 512 MB of RAM and a three mega-pixel camera.
On the other hand Peak is supposed to retail around £127, which isn't bad for a more high-end smartphone.
This handset will pack a 1.2 GHz processor, 4.3-inch display and a eight mega-pixel camera.
