Galaxy S5 to have eye scanner?
Rumours that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would feature an eyeball scanner have been lent more weight with the discovery of a patent for the technology.
Samsung’s patent features several diagrams that show plans for both an iris-scanning unit and a proximity sensor.
The current theory is that the proximity sensor would activate the iris scanner when an object got close enough.
This would be a smart move for Samsung, which could use it in the current battle with Apple for dominance of the smartphone market.
Apple’s new mobile phones will feature fingerprint sensors for security, so Samsung’s eyeball scanner would go one step further.
However, there are doubts that the technology will make it to the Galaxy S5. It is thought that the phone could be released as early as January 2014.
Of course, if the iris scanner could give Samsung a large enough advantage then it may delay the launch of the S5 in order to integrate the technology.
