Facebook launches Poke app for Apple iPhone
Facebook has launched a new Poke app for Apple iPhone devices, which lets members of the social network easily communicate with friends.
The ability to poke contacts has been a feature of the website since 2004, allowing users to provoke a conversation.
The associated app, which can be downloaded for free through iTunes, lets iPhone owners share text messages, photographs or videos with friends.
However, the difference is that they automatically expire within one to ten seconds, depending on the sender's settings.
Perhaps launched for users who want to keep secrets, the tool is similar to Snapchat, which is also available through the App Store.
A Facebook Messenger app is also available for those who would like to utilise the instant communication service on the go.
Mobile phone owners could save money on their monthly bill by downloading tools like this as opposed to using SMS, as long as they are connected to the internet.
