Facebook 'in talks' with mobile phone firms
Facebook is talking to a number of major mobile phone manufacturers about integrating its social network into their devices, it has been reported.
According to the Wall Street Journal, an unconfirmed source has claimed that Facebook has spoken with Motorola in recent months, while the company is also thought to be in discussions with Palm and Nokia.
Social networks have become increasingly popular in recent years, with Facebook the seventh most popular website on the planet, according to December figures from comScore.
The online analyst suggested earlier this month that the rise in social networking could be helping to drive the uptake of smart mobile phones in western Europe, finding that 5.4 per cent of people go online for social networking purposes via their handsets in the five biggest countries.
A total of 12.1 million mobile phone users in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy went on social networking websites in the three months up to November 2008, up 152 per cent on 2007.
