Could check-in technology affect mobile trade in decisions?
Check-in technology has risen to such prominence in the communications market that it could now affect the decisions of those due to trade in mobiles.
Whether it is checking in to a famous place or building, informing loved ones of whereabouts or inviting friends to meet up at a particular location, the tool is often a useful and informative one.
Jason, writing for Nokia Conversations, noted that new figures from comScore show the popularity of the software is on the rise, with more than 16 million people using a check-in service in the US in March 2010 alone.
The majority of these people did so via a smartphone, perhaps making a trade in and subsequent upgrade to a top device the best way to enjoy location-aware tools.
An app by Quidco was recently named by the Guardian as its App of the Week, with its check-in capabilities cited as one of the key factors in its success.
