One of the major irritations for mobile phone users is the inability of their device's battery to remain active for more than a few hours at a time.
However, the option of selling mobiles and switching to a model with a long-life battery could soon be on the cards.
New research by Northwestern University has found that the "dream battery" may well be much closer to reality than many people realise.
A team of experts working at the institution have formed an electrode for lithium-ion batteries, similar to those found in the latest iPhone, HTC or BlackBerry handset.
However, the engineers' product is capable of holding a charge approximately ten times as large as batteries currently found in mobile phones.
ConsumerReports.org recently signalled its intention to back the new Apple iPhone 4S as a top-quality device that it recommends to all British consumers, citing its impressive battery life as one of its key advantages.
