Consumers could recycle mobiles after receiving Apple iPad
People who are given an Apple iPad – or any other tablet device – for Christmas may find themselves rushing to recycle a mobile phone in order to make way for it.
Nikki Moore, technology expert at girlgeekchic.com, said there are several gadgets that are capturing the imagination of the public this year.
One of those is the Apple iPad 2, which she described as being "incredibly popular" since its release earlier this year.
"[There are] tablets that have come onto the market which are at a much more accessible price so I think a lot of people will be going down the tablet route for presents," Ms Moore explained.
The industry chief went on to explain that most people like to add a tablet to their lives as they are realising how much value it can add to their everyday activities.
Some recipients of the iPad 2 could be people who owned the original model, as Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar Worldpanel, said recently that brand loyalty to Apple has led to about three-quarters of iPhone 4S devices being sold to individuals who have previously used a model from the range.
