Consumer mobile app revenues to pass £30bn

08/02/2012

A new report from Juniper Research has claimed that annual revenues from consumer mobile phone applications will approach $52 billion (£32.7 billion) by 2016. This is as a result of people looking to recycle their handsets to get new smartphones and tablets.

While it was shown that smartphones will continue to comprise the majority of app revenues over the forecasted period, tablets could comprise up to 25 per cent of global app revenues by 2016.

According to the report, more than 31 billion apps were downloaded to mobile devices throughout the whole of 2011.

"The report found that the introduction of operator billing across leading storefronts such as the Android Market and Ovi Store had led to a dramatic rise in revenues," a statement on the firm's website read.

Recent research conducted by Fiksu found that people with iPhones accounted for more than six million apps a day during December last year.
