Computer users 'can still trade in mobile and switch to smartphone'
Those who rely on a personal computer or laptop have received advice that could tempt them to trade in their mobiles in order to add a smartphone or tablet to their technology portfolio.
Roddy McLean, marketing director at Crucial.com, explained the newer devices on the market are unlikely to ever replace the role of computers.
He suggested there will be a place for both forms of technology to work together in the majority of cases and to complement each other.
"Most people with tablets and smartphones use their computer as the hub in their computer ecosystem - a place to store photos, videos, data, et cetera; there is a place for all devices," Mr McLean stated.
His words could tempt consumers who are currently missing out on a top smartphone or tablet to sell used phones in order to make room for one in their lives.
IHS iSuppli recently suggested that rising demand for tablets – such as the iPad – is taking its toll on shipments of computers, with global sales of the machines in the first quarter of 2011 down on the same period a year earlier.
