Check-in technology could be important when selling mobiles
People who sell mobile phones and plan an upgrade could increasingly be looking towards check-in technology when choosing their replacement device.
That is because almost one-in-five people now use the check-in function on their handsets, according to the latest research from comScore.
Of those, 70 per cent use an Android or Apple model to do so, perhaps highlighting these as the best phones to switch to.
In the US, some 16.7 million consumers used check-in technology in March, meaning it has spread to more than seven per cent of the mobile-owning population.
"Although still in their relative infancy, location-based mobile check-in services are seeing rather impressive adoption among smartphone users," said Mark Donovan, comScore senior vice-president of mobile.
Checking in allows users to share details of where they are with friends and contacts, as well as view recent reports and tips on their location.
Among the newest Apple models on the market are the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5.
