Can mobile recycling help to beat home phone price hikes?
Millions of British householders are set to suffer when the price of using a landline rises from October 1st, but recycling a mobile may present some with a lifeline.
Those who send their existing handset to be disposed of in a green way could use the cash gained towards a new device with a cheap tariff.
This could reduce reliance on home phones, which are due to become more expensive, according to Consumer Choices.
And when the new charges take effect, millions will fail to investigate the alternatives – such as using a mobile on a tailored charging scheme – and simply continue to pay the inflated prices.
Michael Phillips, produce director at Homephonechoices.co.uk, says: "The monthly line rental charge is increasingly being questioned by consumers who have seen already seen prices rise this year, despite an environment where many people are tightening their belts."
The network Three may be an option for many, following its recent announcement of £10 and £15 top-up deals that offer minutes and texts.
