Businesses May Be Wise To Invest In Mobile Phones

UK organisations may be making a wise decision if they choose to invest in work-only mobile phones for their staff.

Such an idea comes after Heather Mclean, editor at Mobile Business, said allowing employees to use one handset to be shared between their private and professional lives is a potential breach of security.

"If enough people start buying iPhones and HTC [High Tech Computer] Android handsets and coming into work with them, then that creates a security issue," she explains.

Indeed, this may be a factor in Standard Chartered's recent decision to control the information staff can access through their company iPhones.

One way to avoid the problem is for firms to splash out on mobiles to be used only in working hours and for company matters, leaving employees to fund their own social phone use.

Juniper Research recently found four-in-five people believe security is the most important issue when purchasing a new smartphone.
