Battery Issues Cause Apple To Replace IPhone 5S Units

Apple has said that it will be replacing a limited number of iPhone 5S mobile phones after it was discovered that a manufacturing defect is causing battery issues.

One of the selling points of the iPhone 5S was its improved battery life of up to 250 hours on standby. However, some users have found that their batteries drain at a rapid rate.

Teresa Brewer, an Apple spokeswoman, told the New York Times: "We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life."

Apple’s statement implied that a few thousand iPhones were affected, although they did not say exactly how many.

A manufacturing issue is not the same as a defective battery, which some users assumed was the problem with their phones.
