Asus PadFone 2 unveiled
Asus unveiled its PadFone 2 smartphone/tablet device at an event in Taipei on October 16th.
The gadget is an independent smartphone which can slot into a special casing to power a tablet computer.
The mobile phone has a 4.7-inch screen while the tablet features a 10.1-inch display. So, unlike with 'phablets', like the 5.55-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2, there is no compromise between the sizes.
It means that customers get the best of both worlds, with prices for the phone and tablet dock ranging from TWD$23,990 (£510) to TWD$27,901, depending on the internal memory size.
Purchasing an Apple iPhone 5 handset and the new iPad tablet would put a consumer back at least £928.
PadFone 2 has high specs – a quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM and 13-megapixel camera all feature.
There's also support for Near Field Communication (NFC) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) technologies, meaning owners can make payments with the device and benefit from high-speed 4G networks.
