Apples Share Of Tablet Market Increases

Two years after virtually creating the media tablet market with the release of the first iPad, Apple has increased its global market share to nearly 70 per cent in the second quarter.

This rapid development puts the company on pace to reclaim some of the dominance that it surrendered in 2011 as many firms brought out competing devices.

During the second three months of the year, Apple shipped 17 million iPad 2s and new iPad media tablets, which represents an increase of 44.1 per cent when compared to the first quarter.

Indeed, IHS' iSuppli Display Materials & Systems Service suggested that the next best firm is Samsung, which has a 9.2 per cent market share compared to Apple's 69.6 per cent.

ZDNet's Ben Woods recently suggested that one of the iPad's main competitors - the Kindle Fire - will struggle to well in the UK

Director of tablet and monitor research at IHS Rhoda Alexander added: "Apple is making all the right moves to rebuild its dominant position in the tablet space."
