Apple Wants $3bn From Samsung

Apple will request a judge to triple the amount Samsung has to pay in damages to $3 billion (£1.85 million), according to a report in the Korea Times.

The South Korean manufacturer was ordered to pay the American technology giant $1.05 billion in compensation, after a jury found it guilty of infringing patents on August 24th.

However, the iPhone creator has requested US federal judge Lucy H Koh triple the payment to $3 billion. This makes it the largest sum ever sought in a technology court battle over patents.

Apple is asking for the reward to be increased as it believes Samsung "wilfully" copied protected iPhone and iPad design and technology ideas.

The hearing will take place in a California court on September 21st.

Samsung has recently received other bad news from the courts. The company requested removal of a Galaxy Tab 10.1 ban, since they were found not guilty of infringing the corresponding patent.

However, their appeal was denied as the judge blamed a lack of jurisdiction.
