Apple iPhone owners help App Store reach 40bn downloads
Apple iPhone owners have helped the American manufacturer reach a significant milestone, as there have now been more than 40 billion downloads through the App Store.
Developers have created over 775,000 tools and games, meaning users have access to the largest catalogue in the mobile phone industry.
Some of the most popular apps include Angry Birds, Facebook, Fruit Ninja and Twitter, and Temple Run became an iPhone sensation in 2012.
The game was downloaded more than 75 million times, and co-founder of Imangi Studios Keith Shepherd said the success was "nothing short of astonishing".
Almost half of total downloads were made in 2012, even though the App Store has been active since 2008 - it seems more customers are attracted to the useful and fun downloads available.
Mobile phone owners are increasingly using their device for functions other than calling and texting, so higher adoption of gaming, online shopping and photography help app installations soar.
