Apple iPhone 5 helps boost iOS market share
Apple iOS now has 28 per cent market share in the UK compared to only 18.1 per cent 12 months earlier, indicating that the iPhone 5 has been extremely popular in the country.
Android continues to dominate the UK with 58.2 per cent share – a 4.8 percentage point increase on last year, according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech data.
Despite the huge success of Android handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Google operating system has not improved its customer base as much as the iPhone manufacturer.
Usage of Research in Motion software, which powers BlackBerry devices, has dropped by more than half to 8.8 per cent.
Nokia recently put Symbian into maintenance mode, and this firmware now only has 0.6 per cent of the market.
Microsoft has over doubled its share from two to 4.2 per cent, and the technology giant will be hoping that the recently-announced Windows Phone 8 operating system will help it to improve further.
