Apple iPhone 4S release confirmed

The iPhone 4S – described by manufacturer Apple as the most amazing iPhone to date – will be released in the UK on October 14th.

At a special launch ceremony held in California yesterday (October 4th), the company revealed some of the special features that the model will boast.

These include the dual-core A5 chip that ensures "blazing-fast" performance, as well as a brand new camera and top-quality video recording technology.

In addition to details of the new phone, Apple confirmed it is also launching iOS 5 – the world's most advanced operating system.

"While our competitors try to imitate iPhone with a checklist of features, only iPhone can deliver these breakthrough innovations that work seamlessly together," said Philip Schiller, senior vice-president of worldwide product marketing at Apple.

There are said to be more than 200 new features included on the iPhone 4S, such as an innovative messaging service and a Notification Center.

Many industry observers had been expecting Apple to confirm the launch of an iPhone 5 – something it has, for now, neglected to do.
