Apple IPhone 3G Faces A Tough New Rival

One of the latest phones from Sony Ericsson could represent a serious challenge to the smartphone dominance of the Apple iPhone 3G, it has been suggested.

Although an article in Phones Review this week states that every flagship launch invites comparisons with Apple's "iconic" device, one phone has now emerged that could live up to the hype.

Announced last week, the Sony Ericsson Satio is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera that is significantly more powerful than the two-megapixel smaller on the iPhone.

Pricing is another area where the new handset is expected to come out on top, although lack of access to the Apple App Store will also be key to some shoppers who have recently recycled mobile phones to pay for a new model.

"[The] downside with the Satio is that it doesn't support as many applications as the iPhone - and the iPhone incorporates simplicity of use," it concludes.

Sony Ericsson's satio was announced last week alongside two other devices - the Yari and the Aino.
