Apple financial results could illustrate popularity of iPhone and iPad devi
The Apple iPhone 4S release did not affect the popularity of the tech giant's other smartphone models, according to the company's latest sales figures.
In the three months to September 24th, Apple shifted 17.07 million iPhones, representing a rise of 21 per cent year on year.
Apple's tablet, the iPad, performed even more strongly during the quarter, with sales rising by 166 per cent on the corresponding period of 2010 to 11.12 million units.
The results helped the company to achieve revenue of $28.27 billion (£17.96 billion) for the quarter, along with profit of $6.62 billion.
Chief executive of Apple Tim Cook said: "Customer response to iPhone 4S has been fantastic, we have strong momentum going into the holiday season and we remain really enthusiastic about our product pipeline."
The latest version of the iPhone hit the market last Friday (October 14th), with Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller describing the device as the "best iPhone ever".
