Apple App Downloads Could Prompt Mobile Upgrades

The number of downloads by users of iPhones and other gadgets from Apple has risen to more than 15 billion, it has been revealed.

According to the latest figures from the technology giant, its App Store has witnessed high levels of traffic, perhaps prompting people to look into mobile phone recycling in order to pay for an upgrade to their handset that will enable them to access the portal.

Apple reported over 200 million users of its devices around the world downloaded the applications in question, with more than 425,000 apps offering content via the online shop.

"In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen," the company's senior vice-president of worldwide products Philip Schiller exclaimed.

Solutions available via Apple's dedicated portal are divided into 20 categories, including news, education, health, sports and travel, with many designed specifically for the latest versions of the iPhone.

Those who like to keep up-to-date with the news may wish to upgrade to the Apple handset, as The Times recently revealed it is relaunching its app for the device.
