Android KitKat To Offer More Texting Options

The latest version of Google's Android operating system, KitKat, will provide more options for users when it comes to sending the humble text message.

Smartphone users send millions of texts every day and once KitKat is added to handsets they will be able to choose from a default SMS app for themselves, rather than the devices reverting to the classic Android Messaging app.

In an official company post, Android revealed that application developers are required to adjust their hidden SMS APIs to enable users to select their app as a default

While this is a positive feature for many mobile users, there is no information as yet when the new OS software will be making its debut on Android devices.

So far, rumours suggest that it will be later this year, as the blog post urged developers to work quickly if they want their apps to be available for SMS selection.
