Android extends lead in mobile phone OS market
Android continues to be the domineering force in the British mobile phone operating system (OS) market, after extending its lead with impressive year-on-year growth in the three months to January.
Google's software was running on 56.2 per cent of handsets at this time in the country, up from just less than half.
At the other end of the scale, Kantar Worldpanel ComTech data shows that BlackBerry's customer base is shrinking rapidly, with 9.9 percentage point contraction over the same period.
Demand for Apple products like the iPhone 5 remains high, meaning that iOS has experienced modest growth of 1.3 percentage points - it continues to control around 30 per cent of the market.
Popularity of Windows Phone devices seems to be picking up in light of new releases, as its share has increased from 2.4 to 6.2 per cent.
The version 8 firmware was launched on October 29th, and complementary Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X gadgets went on sale soon after.
