Samsung to drop Mini branding from new pared down S5?
Samsung could be set to drop the name Mini from the smaller version of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 device when it is released in the next couple of months, new leaks have suggested.
It will not come as a surprise to many, with the phone's leaked credentials having raised a few eyebrows with regards to its branding as a 'mini' device.
The 4.47-inch screen that it is expected to ship with would be nearly half an inch larger than Apple's iPhone 5S's screen, and only a little smaller than the display that comes as standard on the full sized Samsung Galaxy S5.
If true, this would well and truly put the notion of a mini device to rest, and new pictures from trusted leak site @evleaks seem to suggest that the Korean company agrees with this opinion.
The leaked images show seemingly official branding from Samsung for a device called the Samsung Galaxy S5 Dx, and given all the rumours of specifications and looks, it seems to be the phone we've all previously been referring to as the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini.
The images apparently appeared accidentally on the official Samsung website, and were there for just long enough for someone at @evleaks to grab a screenshot which shows off the official branding page for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Dx.
It shows that the phone will come in at least five different colours - gold, blue, white/silver, black/grey and yellow.
As well as the size, however, there are a number of other rumours as to why Samsung is potentially looking to drop the 'mini' moniker.
These include the reported slew of new devices soon to hit the market that use the same name, including the likes of LG G2 Mini, the iPad mini, the Microsoft Surface Mini, and the HTC One Mini 2.
With all of these to contend with, it would make sense for Samsung to look to set itself apart, and this is something it could definitely do with the changing of the name to Dx.
