Nokia encourages mobile recycling
Consumers may wish to consider recycling an old mobile phone in order to minimise the damage done to the environment.
It is easy to be green, Nokia has suggested to readers of its Conversations blog and the company has promised it is doing everything it can to be eco-friendly.
More than one billion of the manufacturers handset are currently in use around the world and the blog writer, Rhiain, suggests that each is made with the Earth in mind.
Protecting the environment does not stop with the mobile phones as "along with the green-fingered phones Nokia services also help us live more sustainable lifestyles. The environmental seed is planted from the off and continues through a product's life cycle".
This is done through minimising the damage products cause to the environment thanks to measures including recycling, recovery of used materials and treatment of waste, she added.
Nokia recently revealed it plans to extend its free Ovi Maps service to the E71 and E66 handsets.
