New Campaign To Focus On Mobile Phone Recycling

A climate change charity has launched a major new campaign to encourage more people to recycle their mobile phones.

Global Cool is unveiling a new drive to highlight the opportunity for mobile users to recycle their old handsets at this year's London Fashion Week.

The organisation is planning a series of events at the fashion festival, which is one of the highlights on the global fashion calendar.

A space within the Designers' Exhibition will be provided for Global Cool to promote the potential for recycling old mobile phones, as well as other forms of eco-sustainability such as recycling old clothes by passing them on to friends and family.

While such an option might not cross the minds of those at the top of the fashion tree, recycling old mobile phones and other fashion items by passing the on to others could become more popular as the recession makes life more difficult for people on lower incomes.

Recycling mobile handsets is becoming increasingly fashionable within the industry, as manufacturer Nokia this week picked up the first award for Outstanding Environmental Contribution at the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, thanks to its global efforts to encourage more mobile recycling.
