Mobile trade ins could become increasingly popular
The number of people trading in their mobile phones in order to upgrade to one of the latest models may be set to grow.
That is because the amount of apps downloaded each year – typically by owners of hi-tech smartphones – is predicted to soar, in the opinion of one expert organisation.
ABI Research suggested the total quantity of apps downloaded annually will top 44 billion by 2016.
"Given the vast number of choices available, app developers and app stores need to innovate continually in order to maintain consumers' interest," warned the body's analyst Fei Feng Seet.
Conclusions drawn include the fact that Windows Phone 7 and Android are starting to catch up with Apple in terms of introducing users to the latest technology and devices.
Apple recently released the long-awaited white version of its iconic iPhone 4 handset, which may have tempted some people to trade in their mobile.
