Mobile recycling tops eco-phone poll
Mobile phone recycling has come out on top in a survey to determine what is the most important aspect of an environmentally friendly handset.
Nokia Conversations posed the eco-phone question to its readers and found that 26.79 per cent of people believed the use of recyclable materials to be the most important feature of a green device.
The ability to use natural power, such as the recently announced Samsung and LG solar-powered mobiles, was voted for by 25.89 per cent of respondents, ahead of eco phone chargers (13.39 per cent), replacement parts (8.93 per cent) and re-use (8.93 per cent).
Removing chargers from boxes and using less packaging also ranked inside the top eight responses.
According to the website, Nokia has been striving to improve its handsets by using recyclable materials in recent months, an initiative that demonstrates "the importance of mobile recycling and enabling folk to easily recycle their devices".
